News · Argument on Aedpac's Animal Welfare Law (LBA) for use by its associates and clients

13/03/2023

As you well know, the recent approval in Congress of the Animal Welfare Law (LBA) and its passage to the Senate for final approval, has caused intense concern among professionals and businessmen in the sector. During the last few weeks, the association's headquarters have responded to a multitude of inquiries from distributors, manufacturers and especially retailers from all over Spain to obtain reliable information on the new requirements and limitations foreseen for marketing and acquiring pets from now on.

Given that misinformation and rumors about the content of said law is widespread, not only among the citizen but also among the media themselves, an effect, without a doubt, caused by the lack of political definition that reflects its unclear and strict wording in its interpretation, based on scientific and market criteria, the AEDPAC Live Animals Commission (CAAVV) in agreement with the association's Board of Directors, has drawn up a document as an argument that summarizes the key aspects of the Law.

The document has two versions, one descriptive in a professional key and the other in a more entertaining and colloquial question and answer format.

In both cases, we want to emphasize that all the text included are literal extracts from the Law itself, that is, a synthesis of those fragments that respond to the majority concerns that we have detected. There is no own opinion or even interpretation of the wording. All the text comes literally from the synthesis of the more than 70 pages that the LBA contains.

AEDPAC, allows and authorizes its associates the use and public reproduction of said document to transfer it to those who deem most convenient (clients, suppliers, media, public administration, etc.). We believe that every effort is little to avoid the possible brake of the citizen in the commercialization and acquisition of companion animals that could negatively affect the sale of services and products generated by the sector's value chain: veterinary services, food, products, accessories and services.

We are also assessing how to transmit this information to the citizen through communication campaigns at points of sale or social networks to help clarify the numerous fake news that flood the media and social networks.

As always, we are open to any proposal in this regard.

Thank you for everyone's collaboration and see you at Iberzoo+Propet'23 where we will hold a talk on the impact of the LBA in the sector that will take place at the V FORUM AEDPAC.
